I'm beginning to fear that my OS is trying to control my activities / kill me so the idea of creating clean environments, tailored to my needs (without the burden of virtualisation sounds very attractive.
It would be great if you can provide a few pointers on how best to get started. I'll read some of the info on your blog -- anything else you can add will be greatly appreciated.

OK - quick update: No NIX on Windows -- boo |-( Guess I'll first have to work out to reserve a space on the PC for a Linux environment. Ta Sam
