It's been more than five years since BitWriter was announced. At this point the best nvAlt replacement I've found is Ulysses, which I've been using for a couple of years now (after trying some other alternatives).

I'll still give nvUltra a try whenever it comes out though. Hopefully it will be a bit lighter and faster than Ulysses.
