What does "Document Provider" mean?

• The listed editor is able to access documents from other document providers (like iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Documents.app, Working Copy, iSH, etc, etc)
• The listed editor stores files locally and allows other applications to access those files through the Document Provider interface
