I just throw a lightweight distro on there and use debauchee/barrier. Yes, it's not as convenient as once screen, but my primary laptop is pretty slow anyway so it helps to have the extra horsepower, especially for some apps that are particularly heavy.
I did look into barrier, but I felt like having a separate daemon and the other bells and whistles were useless for me, the peripheral share described seemed a lot more intuitive and easy.
