Thanks -- I can see there are some genuine advantages there. I'm not sure that any are immediately compelling for me though. A combination of delicious + instapaper + ifttt does enough, and pretty conveniently. I think I'll wait to see what happens as the cloud over the future of delicious clears ...
I've been seeing a lot of comments along similar lines, but wonder if it's mostly just that Yahoo isn't cool. Delicious seems fine to me -- fast and simple -- and it looks like the only substantial enhancement Pinboard offers is with the $25pa archival account.
Can anyone enlighten me as to in what way the base Pinboard account improves over Delicious?

The major difference, for me, is that Pinboard is being actively developed by responsive developers. Delicious is being sold and its future is uncertain.
Beyond that, full text search is huge, and there's a download feature to pull full web archives of your last 25 bookmarks within any category for offline reading. You can set bookmarks to "Read Later" and use Pinboard like Instapaper. You can auto-import bookmarks from your friends, your Instapaper account, even Twitter streams. You can also create private bookmarks and private tags, with secure RSS feeds for either. All that is enough to make it worth the price of admission, at least for me.
